Museums and Cultural Heritage is an interdisciplinary programme with a particular focus on Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific. It draws on museums and heritage-related courses taught by Anthropology, Art History, History, Māori Studies and Sociology.

Museums and Cultural Heritage can give you an excellent foundation for: a career as a curator, education officer, art gallery registrar or manager; careers in museums and heritage institutions in the private and government sectors; and careers in tourism.

Master of Arts in Museums and Cultural Heritage
120-point (one-year) MA
A BA(Hons) or PGDipArts in Museums and Cultural Heritage or, in exceptional cases, another subject as approved by the Programme Coordinator, or equivalent.

180-point (18-month) MA
A BA (or approved equivalent qualification) with a major in one of
Anthropology, Art History, History, Maori Studies, Museums and Cultural Heritage or Sociology, or, in exceptional cases, another subject as approved by the Programme Coordinator. You must have a Grade Point Average of 5.0 or higher in 75 points above Stage II including at least 45 points in the major.

Complete 180 points comprising:

15 points for all Compulsory Course, and
Either:
30 points for all Exhibiting Cultures Course - 1 Semester, or
30 points for all Exhibiting Cultures Course - 2 Semesters, and
75 points from Elective Courses, and
60 points for all Dissertation
