German is the native language of more than 100 million people. It is an important language of trade since Germany is the fourth-largest economy and the third-largest exporter in the world. Germany is also New Zealand’s most important trading partner in the European Union.
German language and linguistics courses can give you in-depth understanding and communication skills in the most widely spoken language in the European Union.

Postgraduate courses in German include language acquisition, German literature from the eighteenth century to the present, and German language teaching and translation.
There are opportunities to undertake research in German studies ranging from literature to the German connection with New Zealand and the Pacific.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in German
A BA or Bachelor of Global Studies with a major in German. You must have a Grade Point Average of 5.0 or higher in 45 points above Stage II in the major.
The following subjects may also be considered for entry: Global Studies, Transnational Cultures, Creative Practice.

Complete 120 points comprising:

At least 60 points from German Elective Courses, and
0 to 30 points from Additional Elective Courses, and
Either:
30 points for all Research Project - 1 Semester, or
30 points for all Research Project - 2 Semesters
