This course will provide an understanding of the critical social issues currently facing urban planning. The aims of this course include but not limited to:
• Develop an understanding of urban social theory, social justice, diversity, and housing issues in Aotearoa New Zealand.
• Familiarise students with contributions that sociological and criminological theory can make to the urban planning profession.
• Introduce students with analysis approaches and skills to investigate urban planning approaches and responses to social issues.
This course provides and encourages different learning opportunities for learners, including research-informed teaching, learning through lectures, learning by doing, learning by research, and peer learning.
