Overview

Programme Overview

A BGlobalSt/BSc conjoint allows you to complete a BGlobalSt and a BSc in less time than it would take to complete the two degrees separately.

You can combine one of four majors in the BGlobalSt with a wide range of subjects spanning the full range of scientific enquiry.

You'll explore the value of subjectivity and objectivity; of creativity and critique; of free thought and rational argument. You’ll develop your analytical and numerical abilities as well as your written and verbal communication skills. You'll also investigate the cultural, societal and historical context of scientific discovery.

Programme Structure

The BGlobalSt/BSc usually takes four years to complete.

You will need to complete a total of 540 points, consisting of:

  • 255 points from BSc courses
  • 255 points from BGlobalSt courses
  • 15 points from General Education
  • 15 points from Waipapa Taumata Rau core course

You can choose up to two subjects as your major(s) for the BSc component of your conjoint. Anthropological Science, Biomedical Science, Data Science, Food Science and Nutrition, Green Chemical Science, Information and Technology Management, Logic and Computation and Medicinal Chemistry are not available for conjoints.

You will also choose from one of four majors for the BGlobalSt component of your conjoint:

  • Global Environment and Sustainable Development
  • Global Politics and Human Rights
  • International Relations and Business
  • Transnational Cultures and Creative Practice

You will also take core courses in Global Studies and study a language and a related area of the world. To find out more, see the BGlobalSt - Bachelor of Global Studies .

You would usually enrol in eight 15-point courses (120 points) each year. If you want to complete in four years, you can enrol in nine 15-point courses (135 points) each year (including Summer School). Enrolling in five courses in a semester is not advisable for Global Studies students. You need to maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.5 each year to continue with your conjoint.

If you are a new student studying an undergraduate degree with us in 2025 you will most likely need to complete one General Education course and one Waipapa Taumata Rau course.
