Overview

Programme Overview

A BCom/BGlobalSt conjoint allows you to complete a BCom and a BGlobalSt in less time than it would take to complete the two degrees separately.

Our interdisciplinary Global Studies programme will expose you to new ways of thinking about the world, develop your competence in another language, and grow your understanding of other cultures and perspectives.

The BCom component of your conjoint will develop the specialist knowledge and skills required to launch a career in your chosen field(s) of business.

Programme Structure

The BCom/BGlobalSt usually takes four years to complete.

You will need to complete a total of 540 points, consisting of:

  • 255 points from BCom courses
  • 255 points from BGlobalSt courses
  • 15 points Waipapa Taumata Rau core course
  • 15 points from courses available for any programme

There are eight compulsory courses in the BCom component of the conjoint. Six Stage I and one Stage II core courses, and one capstone course. Stage I core courses are to be prioritised before enrolling in major courses. If you choose two majors for BCom component, you may exceed 255pts and prolong your degree completion.

You will choose from one of four majors for the BGlobalSt component of your conjoint:

  • Global Environment and Sustainable Development
  • Global Politics and Human Rights
  • International Relations and Business
  • Transnational Cultures and Creative Practice

You will also take core courses in Global Studies and study a language and a related area of the world.

You would usually enrol in eight 15-point courses (120 points) each year. If you want to complete in four years, you can enrol in nine 15-point courses (135 points) each year (including Summer School). Enrolling in five courses in a semester is not advisable for Global Studies students. You need to maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.5 each year to continue with your conjoint.
